pigalle basketball court in paris gets refresh with gaming inspired graphics
For the pre-opening of Nike’s “House of Innovation” in Paris, we turned the city into a virtual playground and invited Parisians to web-based augmented reality experiences. The core experiences was about the famous basketball court centered in Pigalle with its unique rules to play. Players join the XR experiences via a QR code and learn how to play by the custom set of rules.

This is the fifth iteration of the Pigalle Duperré court in Paris.
This time featuring a more graphical, block colour design to tie in with the new Nike Pigalle Converse collection. For this new court design nike decided to implement an Augmented reallity application that explains the court specific rules. Since the court is more narrow than usual and sorrounded by walls, players have additional ways to score points. Scoring by bouncing balls off the wall, ballers gain extra points. We set out to bring this user manual to live in the court with web AR technologies.
Early designs and styleframes
The heart of the AR campaign was the freshly repainted Pigalle court. The iconic court always had its own set of rules, such as rebounding against the side walls. With the repainting, a new set of rules was established and our augmented reality layer explained these in an immersive tone. The layer extended the Pigalle court virtually and turned the court into a truly immersive playground.
